1.Where does Ralph first hide from his pursuers?
First Ralph hides in a thicket in the Forrest first.

2. Who gives Ralph meat from Jack’s feast?
Sam n Eric give jack meat from jack's feast.

3. Why did Samneric join Jack’s tribe?
Because when they went to get piggy's glasses back Jack ordered them to stay.


4. What has Roger prepared for Ralph?
A stick starp on both ends which means that jack wants to cut his head off and put one end of the stick in the ground and put his head on top



5. How does Jack’s tribe flush Ralph from hiding?
They set the island on fire to make Jack run out of his hiding place.

6. What does Ralph discover when he flees to the beach?
Ralph discovers a naval officer when he goes to the beach.

7. How does Jack appear on the beach?
Jack some running to the beach with spears and a Forrest on fire behind him.

8. What boy cannot remember his name? Percival is the boy who cant remember his name even though he usually remembered his full name all the time.

9. Who takes responsibility for the events on the island?
Ralph takes responsibility for the events on the island.

10. Why is the naval officer disappointed in the boys?
He is disappointed because he thought the boys would be able to cooperate and be nice to each other. Not make a fire on the island and chase after each other with spears.

I think that Ralph and Piggy were having a pretty good discussion. I think that Piggy was wrong though because it was entirely Jack fault for my death because he should have been paying attention to what he was spearing.I thank Ralph for sticking up for me and recognizing that Jack MURDERED me. Piggy thinks it was an accident but you just don't kill some random thing in the Forrest.

Jacks rule of his tribe is to keep looking for the beast even though he thought Simon was the beast. What he did to Wilfred was really mean. He beat him up and he tied him up. that was truly wrong to do to those boys when they didn't do anything to Jack. Also Jacks plans with Maurice and roger where just evil. He planned to go to the other boys camp and steal Piggy's glasses. He wanted to steal them to make a fire for his tribe but if he is such a good leader why cant he do that without stealing and idea from someone else.

So after this I saw that Jack and his tribe invaded Ralphs tribe and stole Piggy's glasses. Since jack now has the fire he has pretty much everything except the conch. He has a huge power now and that is not good for Ralph and Piggy and them. I think that this will also lead to more bad things involving Jack and Ralph. I have a bad feeling that Jack and Ralph are going to grow farther appart.

LOTF: chapters 8 and 9




In these scenes Jack and the hunters create “ The Gift” and Simon talks to it. These scenes were the most terrifying to me because in the first scene the author describes it in detail and it talks about a lot of blood and it describes the head of the pig being cut off. In the second scene Simon is talking to a pig head on a stick and what’s more terrifying than a little boy talking to a pig head? The first scene was kind of weird because they cut of the pig head for a reason. That reason was to keep the beast away from them and make it be nice to them. They kind of saw it as a gift to the beast. But in this scene the author really describes the pig’s head getting cut off and the killing of the pig in great detail. In the second scene it was very weird and it was kind of like Simon was hallucinating. He though that the pig was talking to him. Some of the things he thought the pig said were: “ Im in your head you can’t kill me” and “ I am inside you I am the beast”. This showed us three things. One that the lord of the flies is the beast. Two something dark is going to happen. Three that Simon was going a little crazy.

I believe that Jack is 75% responsible for Simons death the other 25% is the storm. I believe this because in the book it says that jack started spearing the beast who was saying something about a dead man on top of the mountain. This shows that Simon was the beast because he had just seen a dead man on top of the mountain. I also think it was th storm because the boys were scared of the storm so they just freaked out and killed whatever popped out of the forest no even knowing what is was. I think this because Simon popped out of the bushes exactly when the dead aviator floated through the air whish frightened the boys. These are the reasons I think that Jack and the storm were responsible for Simons death.

What is the game the boys play after spearing the pig? Who spears the pig? Describe the mood of the boys afterward.
The boys play a game were someone acts like they are the pig and they pretend to kill the pig. In the game Robert pretends to be the pig. Ralph spears the pig but he just hits him he doesn't actually kill the pig. After that the boys were kind of scared but they were determined to find the beast.

Jack suggests, “You could get someone to dress up as a pig and then he could act, you know, pretend to knock me over and all that.” Robert said that they need a real pig because it has to be killed. What does Jack suggest as a substitute? What does this foreshadow?
Jack suggests to use a littlun. This foreshadows that maybe someday Jack will try to really kill a littlun.

What evidence did the boys find to prove that there is a beast? (Why are they so gullible?)
The boys found the aviator. The aviator was moving with the wind and they thought that is was a real monster. The boys are gullible because they are all scared of the beast and they don't want it to be real.

How do you feel about the game the boys play after spearing the pig?
I think that the game that the boys play is kind of dumb. All they are doing is re acting the killing the pig and I think that is kind of stupid.

1. What sign comes down from the grown up world?

The sign that comes down from the grown up world is an aviator that was attatched to a parachute. We are not sure if he is dead or just unconcous but Sam and Eric are claiming that it's the beast.

2. Why aren't the boys aware of it?

The boys are'nt aware of the aviator falling from the sky because they were paying attention to themselfs and they weren't paying attenton to their surroundings.

3. Why are Sam 'n Eric so terrified?

Sam and Eric are terrified because they were the ones who saw the aviator come down from the sky and they saw him as he dropped on to the side of the mountain.

4. How do Sam 'n Eric discribe the Beast?

They say that the beast has claws and sharp teeth. They also said that it had wings. They were just over reacting because they are little and they switch around what they see.

5. What was the attitude of the boys when going off to look for the beast?

Well The littluns were pretty scared because they are little and scared of the beast. Ralph was scared but he didnt show it. H e acted cautoned and clm. Jack was impulsive and dangerous like he was ready to fight and kill the beast.

6. Is there really a beast? How do you know?

I don't think that there is beast because the aviator obviously wasn't the beast. I think that the kids were just making up that they saw the beast.

7. Do you feel that you are still the strongest leader on this island?

Yes, I think I am still the strongest leader on the island because I am a good leader and i know what we need the most to survive on this island.

8. What kind of pressures and stress do you feel as the leader responsible for the boys?

I have alot of pressure because I have to make sure the boys do their jobs and follow the rules and they haven't been listening to me lately.

9. Do you like being a leader?

Ya I like being the leader but I have alot of responsibilities and it is kind of stressful sometimes when the boys don't listen to me.

1. What things are you having trouble adjusting to on the island that are different from your life at home in England?

I think that in England we had food and a house and shelter and we didn’t have to take care of our self’s as much as me do right now. We didn’t have to have as much belligerence as we would normally have to.

2. How do you feel about the littluns?

I think that th littluns are cool and stuff but they are kind of blatant and they don’t help us all out with the things that we need to do.

3. What do they do with their time?

The littluns mostly hang out in the pool and play around at the beach. They don’t really help out with our priorities.

4. Why do you all paint your faces?

We all painted our faces because jack felt like the animals could see him when he was hunting so he made us all paint our faces.

5. What does this foreshadow?

I think it might help us catch more animals I guess.

6. How do you feel when your face is painted?

I feel kind of in a hunting mode I guess and I feel like we are a tribe of kids.

7. Why doesn’t the passing ship see you on the island?

The ship didn’t see us on the island because jack was to busy hunting to notice that he fire went out so the ship didn’t see anything.

7. Why was the fire allowed to go out?

The fire was allowed to go out because jack found a pig for everyone to eat so Ralph just let it go.

8. What is the overall mood on the island at this time?

The mood on the island right now is sort of tense because me and jack just got in a sort of fight because I gave piggy some of my meat and jack and piggy just got in a fist fight and also Ralph got mad at jack because he let the fire go out.

9. What do you predict will happen next?

I think next the two side of the group might split up because Jack and Ralph are kind of mad at each other right now and they might split apart.

It is important for us to have shelter for the little kids because they are starting to get scared since the kid with the mark on his face said that he had seen the beastie. Some of the jobs assigned to the boys are: My job was to take everyone’s name, Jack and the choirs job is to hunt for food and to keep the fire going, Simon doesn’t have a job but he helps out with stuff anyways and the rest of the boys don’t do anything but sit around in the water. I just sit around too but I don’t really have to take peoples names. I am kind of contrite about not doing my work/ vicissitudes I feel like the most important task for survival is to try to get rescued. To try different things to try and get us rescued. But right now I am comfortable with just sitting around by the water. Simon is a sort of short and scrawny little boy with black hair and bright eyes. He wears torn up shorts all the time and he has bare feet. I think that on the island something bad might happen like the little kids might go crazy and scared about the beastie. Or maybe we will not get food since jack isn’t getting any food. He is inscrutable about killing things though so I don’ know about him. We might even figure out that there is something big and bad on the island so that would be bad also.

Fire on the Mountain

1. Do you think this is a good island or a bad island?

We I think this island is kin o in the middle of good and bad because the island seems to have a lot of ebullience and the only bad thing so far that we have heard of on this island is about the beastie (snake thing). It’s probably about to be bad though knowing that we don’t really know how to put out a fire.

2. What is the beastie?

The beastie is the snake thingy that the little boy with the scar claimed to see. He said he saw it in the woods.

3. What does it symbolize?

The beastie symbolizes that there might b more wild animals out in the forest and that something bad might happen concerning the beastie.

4. How does it make you feel?

The beastie makes me feel kind of uncomfortable since I’m the leader of all of the boys and I would want anything to happen to any of them. I hope that Jack, this time, can catch the snake so we can have some food. Then we wouldn’t have anything to worry about.

5. What is your plan for being rescued?

Well we had planned to start a fire so that maybe a search plane or a ship would see us and come and rescue us but now the fire has gone huge and out of control so I don’t know what we are going to do now.

6. Do you want to be rescued?

Yes, We want to be rescued because even though it was probably cool at first to be without our parents but now that we have been here for a couple of days we realize that it is hard to survive on a deserted island with no adults.

7. How did you start a fire and what happens to the fire?

We made the fire by using Piggy’s glasses. We induced him to let us use them. Well actually we pinched them from him. We held them to the light and when the beam of light shined through to the wood and stuff that we got from the forest the fire started. But after a while the wind started blowing and the fire got bigger and bigger and bigger.

8. What happened to the little boy with a mark on his face?

The little boy with the mark on his face was down in the woods when the fire started spreading so we don’t know if he is okay o no but we really hope he is.

9. How are you different from all the other boys?

I am different from all of the other boys because first o all I am the leader of all of the boys so I have a bigger responsibility. Also I am fit to be a leader because I have the conch and i was there when Piggy found the conch.

10. As you go to bed each night, what is going through your head? Are you afraid, excited, indifferent…? What’s going on inside of your head?

As I go to bed each night I have lots of things on my mind. Since I am the leader I have to think about how we are going to get food. How we are going to get rescued. What could be in the forest? Tonight in particular I am thinking about the fire and if we are going to be let on this island, martyred, forever. I am also wondering I the boy with the scar I gone forever or if he is okay. But each night I’m definitely not capering each night.

1. Describe the setting of the island.

I would describe the island as probably very jungle like. It has lots of trees and also has a big mountain where you can see the whole island. There are a lot of ponds and little lakes.

2. What major event has brought you to this island?

Well what happened was I was on a plane and next thing you know I see the back of the plane flying off and after that I ended up on this island.

3. Introduce yourself and explain your relationship to the other characters (of interest) who have been introduced so far. My name is jack Merridew. I am the leader of the choir. So far on this island I have met Ralph (the “president” of the group), piggy (the talkative one in the group), and Simon is one of the boys that was in the choir but now h is going on the expedition with us.

4. Why are there no adults on this island? The reason that there are no adults on the island is because when are plane crashed it went a little too far of the island and ended up drifting off into the ocean.

5. What powers does a person holding the conch have? How do you feel about the conch? The person holding the conch has the power to let anyone know where they are or maybe even to contact with others. I feel that the conch is a powerful tool because if we get lost on out expedition or need help from the other kids on the island we can always blow it to let them know we are in trouble.

6. What is the choir’s job? How do you feel about the boys in the choir? The choir’s job is to hunt for animals and things for the group of boys to eat. I fell that the choir is a very important part of our group now and we have to depend on them to find food and supplies for the group.

7. Why do you feel you should be elected chief? I should have been elected chief because I am a strong leader and I have been the leader of the choir this whole time so I should be able to lead a pack of boys.

8. Why couldn’t you kill the pig? At that time I couldn't kill the pig because I was just noticing that I was about to kill a real live animal and that would pretty much be the same thing as killing a person. I didn’t realize at the time that I would have to kill things every day if I am going to survive on this island.
